Boxers are amongst the highest-paid athletes in the world, with the biggest stars taking home millions of dollars for one night in the ring.

For example, it’s estimated that Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor earned at least $350m (£257m) between them for their “Money Fight” in 2017.

But how much do the world’s best boxers and mixed martial artists make for every punch that they land on their opponents?

The Boxers with the Highest Earnings per Punch

Taking into account each of the 50 richest fights of all time, it was Conor McGregor who earned the most per successful punch thrown. He may have only taken part in one professional bout, but earned over £65m, taking home £589,640 for each of the 111 blows that he landed on Floyd Mayweather, who was second, with £340,213 per punch.

And while Manny Pacquiao may have the highest earnings per punch in a single fight, when we take into account each of the top earnings fights, he actually slips all the way down to seventh in the rankings, with £127,296 per punch.

The Boxing Fights with the Highest Earnings per Punch

1

Floyd Mayweather Jr.

(vs. Logan Paul.)

Top spot on the rankings is appropriately taken by the man who styles himself as ‘Money’, Floyd Mayweather Jr came out of retirement yet again in 2021 for an exhibition bout against Youtuber Logan Paul. Mayweather reportedly earned £72 million for the showcase event, and landed just 43 punches during the contest.

2

Manny Pacquiao

(vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr.)

While he may have eventually lost the fight to his opponent, Manny Pacquiao actually made more per punch landed in his ‘Fight of the Century’ with Floyd Mayweather. Both fighters were paid in excess of £100m for the fights, which was largely seen as a let-down by fans, but not for ‘Pac-Man’ Pacquiao, who made an estimated £1.4m for each of the 81 punches that he landed.

3

Floyd Mayweather Jr.

(vs. Manny Pacquiao)

It’s no surprise that Floyd Mayweather Jr. features more than any other boxer on our list (they don’t call him “Money” Mayweather for nothing), with £1.3m for 148 punches landed during his bout with Pacquiao, which also gives him the highest-earning per punch for a winning fight.

The MMA Fights with the Highest Earnings per Punch

1

Ronda Rousey

(vs. Amanda Nunes)

On the one hand, Ronda Rousey’s return to the UFC was a massive failure, being knocked out in just 48 seconds by Amanda Nunes, but given that she was guaranteed to earn £2.3m for the fight, still wound up making £330,000 for each of the seven strikes that she landed.

2

José Aldo

(vs. Conor McGregor)

Another example of a fighter taking home a nice payday despite being knocked out within seconds, José Aldo was paid just over £300,000 for his fight at UFC 194 with Conor McGregor, but landed just a single strike on his opponent, getting knocked out in just 13 seconds.

3

Conor McGregor

(vs. José Aldo)

In the same fight, Conor McGregor was paid £385k and landed 5 blows on Aldo, earning £77k per strike, but of course, also won the fight, giving him the highest earnings per strike of any winning UFC fighter.
